I began photography as a form of self-therapy. My mum’s death plunged me into despair until a chance encounter with nature started the healing process. Its majesty gave me perspective and reignited in me a sense of wonder. Initially, I photographed to prolong the serenity that nature brought. Now, I photograph to celebrate its beauty and eternalize my serendipitous encounters with the natural world.

My work consists of single-exposure images made in camera. The scenes are set in Hokkaido, Nagano and Aomori, Japan. These locations are very different but united by their extreme natural beauty. What gives me the thrill is seeking beauty in the mundane and chancing upon otherworldly scenes.

Now more than ever, we need to alleviate the stress in our lives and heal. I hope these images of the natural world provide a brief reprieve from life’s harsh realities, by reminding us of the beauty in all things delicate and fierce.
