This image by Ales captivated me with its peaceful precision and elegance. The title of the image tells us exactly what the photographer though while working on it. It is quite precious not only to have our own interpretation of the photo but also, to almost hear the story of the artist. Ales’s association of the image with the sea makes us concentrate first on the delicate pink and brown layers in the field and not on the trees that are so precisely positioned according to the rule of the third. The superb colours of the Earth not oversaturated but still demanding our attention are a perfect example and a strong proof of a total control of tonality by the photographer. All lines, smooth and curved play such a precious compositional role here: they lead the viewer’s eyes gently into the picture. Warm reflected light on the lower path, although subdued, but still powerfully brings the contrast into otherwise peaceful and idealised landscape. The mood of the image is enhanced by careful placement of the dominating element in the lower third of the picture. Positioning of the trees on the right and contrasty dark colour of the bark and branches brings a bit of dynamism into the image. All of the above invite us to embark on a visual journey. Many photographers find the place with such perfect harmonises simply irresistible and viewers, easy to read and enjoyable.
